How to Keep Bugs Out of Your Home This Summer

Thursday, July 16, 2015

If you need pest control in Castle Rock or a surrounding area, you’re in luck because Animal & Pest Control Specialist, Inc. has some tips to help you keep bugs out of the house this summer. There are a number of home remedies to keep the pests away, and many of them are very inexpensive and may even be items you already have in your kitchen.

Citrus peels work wonders to keep the pests away and they smell great, too. Simply rub down the areas of the house where you have noticed creepy crawlies (like spiders), and in no time at all, the scent of citrus will keep them away for good (and keep your home smelling great!).

Lemon Eucalyptus Oil works great to keep mosquitoes and ticks away, and many pest control experts say it’s as effective as DEET. You can buy lemon eucalyptus oil at your local grocery store, essentials oil shop or large department store chain.

White vinegar is a great ant repellent. All of you have to do is put white vinegar in a spray bottle and spray any and all parts of the home where these little critters tend to make their way inside. You may want to steer clear of using white vinegar on carpet or colored fabric as it may cause the color to fade.

Natural cedar is an excellent way to keep the moths away. Moths have a natural aversion to cedar, so if you buy cedar blocks or cedar shavings and place them in a closet or your dresser drawers, you will prevent moths from chewing through your clothes and other items.

Keeping your home clean is probably the easiest way to prevent pests from congregating in your house. Make sure all food is properly stored and don’t leave dirty dishes out as this will surely attract bugs. If the kids take food to their bedrooms, teach them the importance of returning dirty plates and empty containers to the kitchen area to prevent bug infestations.

Experts say that placing a line of cinnamon at a common entry point for insects is one way to keep them from entering your home. Insects will absolutely not cross the cinnamon line, and the great thing about cinnamon is that it smells so yummy.

These are just a few of the easy, inexpensive ways you can help keep the bugs away this summer. If you need pest control in Castle Rock or in the Denver area, please contact Animal & Pest Control Specialist, Inc. today!
