Signs You Have Gophers

Tunnels:

  • Average about 3” in diameter
  • Prefer dry soil
  • End in many mounds—a single gopher may make up to 300 mounds a year

Mounds:

  • Have a characteristic “C” shape, with dirt fanning out on three sides of the hole
  • Unused mounds have holes plugged

Damage:

  • Gophers eat plants, and will clip off or pull down plants
  • Will gnaw around tree and bush roots
  • Some say that rose bushes are a favorite gopher treat

General Information about Gophers:

They usually will give birth to one litter a year consisting of 3-6 babies. Birthing months are typically in the spring. Their diet consists of roots and vegetation. Gophers are active during the day and in the night.
